Our journey begins with breaking down the fundamentals: how to hatch a solid research question and design a study that's both ethical and impactful. You will learn some real-world tips towards effective grant writing with goal of successfully funding your work. The course also includes navigating the regulatory requirements to start and successfully complete your work. Study design and challenges are explored and a practical approach to manuscript writing is provided.

Michael Donnino brings to his teaching a wealth of experience as a continuously funded investigator for the last 20 years. He has published over 300 manuscripts including many in high-impact journals such as the NEJM, JAMA, and others. He has designed and executed over 15 randomized trials and countless observational investigations. His own research spans the full gamut from data science to trials to laboratory medicine and includes both hospital-based and outpatient work thus giving a broad level of expertise. Perhaps most pertinent to the course is that Dr. Donnino has an extensive track record of excellence in mentoring and teaching having won multiple teaching awards, mentoring awards, and currently conducts an NIH funded research training program for fellows.
